Episode Description

How Yoga is Transforming Lives: Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans is the second in a series of 5 episodes which describe Give Back Yoga Foundation yoga service programs. On August 8th, we featured Olivia Kvitne, Program Director for the Yoga for First Responders Program, and in the following months, we will also feature the Eat, Breathe, Thrive™ program, which supports positive body image through yoga and community; Yoga of 12-Step Recovery, which supports addiction recovery and relapse prevention; and The Prison Yoga Project, which supports incarcerated men and women to build a better life through trauma-informed yoga taught as a mindfulness practice. In this episode, we will speak to Mindful Yoga Therapy Program Director Suzanne Manafort about how her program helps veterans with PTSD calm their mind and body through yoga and meditation. Suzanne will also provide guidance to yoga teachers who want to expand their training to be able to work with veterans. Join us to learn more!

Sandra Guy Malhotra, Ph.D.

Sandra is a classically-trained scientist, having earned a B.S. and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering. As an engineering student, she learned the fundamentals of inquiry using the scientific method, experiment planning, data analysis, and critical thinking. Most importantly, she learned to examine problems from many different angles, to question assumptions, and to prove hypotheses. Sandra relied upon these skills as a development engineer at IBM Microelectronics for 9 years and as a Director of Technology at Intermolecular, Inc. for 8 years. She managed high-performing teams and complex projects, and is a co-inventor of 50 patents and co-author of 30 scholarly publications.

Sandra has always been passionate about keeping her body, mind and spirit in balance through nutrition, exercise, spiritual reconnection, and holistic healing techniques. As a result of personal experience and research using her analytical skillset, she became convinced that this whole body approach is the most effective way to maintain health and treat the root causes of disease. She founded W Cubed, Inc. and W Cubed Outreach, Inc. with the mission of providing awareness about issues with our food supply; providing guidance about regenerating body, mind, and spirit to prevent and treat disease; making holistic healing more accessible; and providing financial assistance to those who could benefit from access to holistic health care.
