Mary Kay Smith
Mary Kay Smith, RN, IBCLC, FILCA, has been assisting breastfeeding women since 1982. Initially a La Leche League Leader, she opened a breast pump rental depot in 1985. Working with moms and babies in unique medical situations led to deeper interest in the science of lactation, and she pursued the IBCLC credential in 1988. After spending the last eight years as Lactation Consultant at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit MI, she has returned to her home state of Illinois, and is employed at Edward Hospital in Naperville IL. An active member of the International Lactation Consultant Association, Mary Kay was honored with the designation of “Fellow of the International Lactation Consultant Association” in the inaugural year of the award, 2008. She is a member of the Michigan Breastfeeding Network (A Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies affiliate); BirthNetwork, an organization supportive of natural childbirth and attachment parenting; AHWONN; and the Michigan Lactation Consultant Association, currently serving as that group’s Past President. She is also a registered nurse and certified childbirth educator.
