Marian Tompson

Marian Tompson, one of the Founders of La Leche League International and served as its president for 24 years. She was the first editor of the LLL newsletter (now Breastfeeding Today) and started the library of breastfeeding research that became the Center for Breastfeeding Information. Marian also launched breastfeeding seminars for physicians (yearly 1973-2008) and founded AnotherLook, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to gathering information, raising questions, and stimulating research about breastfeeding and HIV/AIDS. Marian serves on the International Advisory Council for WABA (World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action) and LLLI Board of Directors and is a popular speaker worldwide. Mothering magazine has named Marian its first Living Treasure, and the NY Society for Ethical Culture recognized her work with its Ethical Humanist Award (1999). Her memoir is Passionate Journey: My Unexpected Life (Hale Publishing, 2011).
