Stephen Capra


Stephen Capra was born raised in New York City and discovered the importance of wild nature while in college at Appalachian State University in North Carolina. After a two-year photography program at Colorado Mountain College he began his and exploration, hiking and camping across the West, Canada and Alaska. He returned to college in San Francisco to focus on Journalism and worked for the Wilderness Society on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Campaign in Washington, DC. He then walked the 3200-mile length of the Continental Divide from Mexico to Canada giving talks along the way, to raise awareness for the Arctic Refuge. In 2000, he moved to New Mexico working for the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, forming the Otero Mesa campaign and directed the campaigns on Mexican Wolf protection, Rio Grande del Norte, and the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument Campaigns. In 2012 Stephen founded Bold Visions Conservation, and is the Executive Director. bvconservation.org
